Make a session private with a join PIN

Put a Live Session behind a 4-digit PIN, share it apart from the link, change it or turn it off, and see what players get.

A private session keeps your join link the same but adds a 4-digit PIN. Anyone who opens the link is asked for the PIN before they can pick a name, so a link that gets forwarded, posted or shown on a stream does not let strangers in.

Private sessions are on the Party, Pro and Enterprise plans. They work with Live Sessions, where players join from their own phones. A one-host session has no join link, so it has nothing to lock.

Make a session private

When you create it. On the step where you choose to start now or schedule, switch on Make this session private. Neegma picks a PIN for you; select Regenerate for a different one. You need to be logged in, and on the Free plan the switch shows as locked with a link to the plans.

From the lobby. Under the QR code, select Make session private, then Turn on. Neegma picks the PIN. On a phone, once players have joined, the same row sits in the Invite more card.

For a whole event. Open the event in your dashboard and switch on Private event in the Privacy card. Every Live Session still to play gets its own PIN, and a Live Session you add to the event afterwards gets one too. Challenges, Q&As and Raffles stay open to anyone with the link.

Share the PIN

Open Private session under the QR code. The PIN is hidden by default, because the lobby is often on a shared screen:

  • Copy puts the PIN on your clipboard without showing it.
  • Reveal shows it on your screen. Select Hide when you are done.

Send the link and the PIN separately, for example the link in the invite and the PIN in the room or the meeting chat. The PIN is never printed on the poster, and it does not appear on your event page or on the players' screens.

Change the PIN or turn it off

  • New PIN replaces the PIN. The old one stops working for anyone who has not joined yet.
  • Turn off makes the session public again. Anyone with the link can join.

Neither removes anyone. To take a player out, remove them from the lobby.

What players see

Players open the link and see This session is private. They type the four digits and select Join session, then join as usual with their name.

  • A wrong PIN shows Incorrect PIN and clears the boxes. After several wrong tries the screen asks them to wait a minute.
  • Once in, they stay in. Refreshing the page or losing the connection does not ask for the PIN again on the same device and browser.
  • Players who were already playing when you turned the PIN on stay in, and come back without it after a refresh.
  • A different phone or browser needs the PIN.

If your plan ends during the session

A Party plan lasts 24 hours. If it ends while a session is private, the session stays private and the PIN keeps working, so nobody is locked out and nobody new gets in without it. You can still turn the PIN off, but you cannot turn it back on or choose a new one until you are on a paid plan again.

Still stuck?

If players see Could not check that PIN, ask them to try again in a moment. If it keeps happening, turn the PIN off from the lobby so the room can join, and contact support. See Join a game or reconnect for other joining problems.
